Flyover: Parties vie for voters’ attention

With the civic elections barely eight months away, political parties are competing with each other to score brownie points with their voters.

On Monday, Mayor Snehal Ambekar of the Shiv Sena inaugurated the Narmada River Walk Park at Matunga — the first one to be developed under a flyover — with fanfare. However, Congress member of the Legislative Assembly Kalidas Kolambkar beat her to it the day before.

Deputy Mayor Alaka Kerkar, Sena Member of Parliament Rahul Shewale, Sena leader Trushna Vishwasrao and Education Committee Chairperson Hemangi Worlikar were present for Ms. Ambekar’s inauguration. The Park is designed on the lines of the Narmada River Parikrama. The space below the flyover on Dr. Ambedkar Road opposite Parsi Gymkahana in Matunga (East), where motorists would illegally park their vehicles, was beautified with the theme. Constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore, the park has been constructed by APY Civilkone and will be completed between May 2015 and April 2016.
