Renowned astrologer Bejan Daruwalla passes away at 89; Guj CM tweets condolences

He was admitted to a private hospital in Ahmedabad last week after he complained of breathing difficulty.

NEW DELHI: Famous astrologer Bejan Daruwalla succumbed to lung infection on Friday in a hospital at Ahmedabad. He was 89.

Last week, the famous astrologer was put on ventilator at a private hospital in Ahmedabad after he complained of breathing difficulty.

After the news of his passing emerged, several media reports suggested that he had died due to coronavirus. His astrologer-son, Nastur, however denied those reports. Earlier it was reported that Daruwalla had tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Saturday. His son, however, quashed the rumours, and had confirmed to the

Times of India on Sunday that his father had been suffering from pneumonia and lung infection, and the oxygen level in his body had dipped.

Born in July 1931, Daruwalla was a known Ganesha devotee who combined the principles of various techniques like Vedic astrology, Numerology, Palmistry, I-Ching, Tarot, Kabalah and even Western astrology for his predictions. He had successfully predicted the market volatility and movement from time-to-time. His website, Ganeshaspeaks, was one of the most-accessed sites in astrology, and commanded a huge following, globally.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was one of the first to offer his condolences. Tweeting about Daruwalla, he wrote that he was ‘saddened’ by his passing.

Former Gujarat Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia termed Daruwalla’s demise an “unfathomable loss to the world of Indian astrology.”

According to his website, Daruwalla followed three principles in his life: “Keeping an open mind, observing keenly and research completely”.

Apart from Bollywood celebrities, Prince Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar of City Palace Udaipur and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde have also sought advice from him.
