Bakhtiyar Irani: The new season of Zaban Sambhal Ke will cater to all groups
ALTBalaji’s remake of Zaban Sambhal Ke has Bakhtiyar Irani playing Keki, the Parsi guy in the school. In an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com, the actor opened up about the show, what keeps him away from television and being an entrepreneur.
ALTBalaji recently remade the iconic sitcom Zaban Sambhal Ke. Sumeet Raghavan is seen reprising the role of Pankaj Kapur, who has the tough job of teaching Hindi to a batch of students. Popular television actor Bakhtiyar Irani is seen playing Keki, the Parsi guy in the school. In an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com, the actor opened up about the show, what keeps him away from television and being an entrepreneur.
Talking about what’s new in this season of Zaban Sambhal Ke, Bakhtiyar said, “While the basic premise is same, there is a whole new cast. Also, it’s a new flavour with a lot of interesting elements that will cater to all age. I know people will compare both but it’s a very refreshed season. While the old audience will enjoy watching it, we will also get our own new viewers. When a Judwaa 2 can become a hit, I think remakes are a good option. I also think that after our show, people would also like to go back and watch the old season again.”
Further, when we asked the actor why he has been away from the screens, he smiled to say, “Where are the good offers? I have been conveniently saying no to a lot of shows. And thankfully so, as most of them wrapped up in three months. After being part of the industry for so long, you want to be part of something cult. I can’t work with the mentality of only earning per day. I would rather wait and do something good.”

The ex-Bigg Boss contestant also shared that actors get stereotyped quite easily in the industry. He said, “These guys came straight to me when they were looking out for a Parsi guy. Also, people usually approach me for comedy roles. But I don’t think it should worry me too much. As a Mehmood became a Mehmood only after he was typecasted. One should stick to what they are doing good. Of course, experimenting once in a while is important.” This might be Bakhtiyar’s first attempt at acting on the digital medium but he recently produced a successful chat show Tango with Tannaz. Sharing that he is very much in clue what’s happening in the web world, he said, “I think all of us are hooked to the various web series. We haven’t planned anything yet but would love to do something different soon. There are many interesting shows also been made. I would love to do something in the negative space. I am open to taking up work and clearly, it’s not for money but only for creative satisfaction.”

The actor also owns a dance school and when asked how is entrepreneurship working for him he said, “It’s doing good. My beard has turned white thanks to the business (laughs). But it’s really so fulfilling to teach these kids to dance. We are soon going to start a new venture that will have all kinds of activities for the kids under one roof. It would be the perfect place to get the creative juices flowing of these youngsters.”
