Dial A Parsi
The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.
In my younger days there was a message that was taught to me. And that was to Help and impact the lives of the people closest in your environment and then move on to helping others. In this case we started out by helping senior citizens in getting their groceries or doing a fund raiser or going door to door collecting donations for a cause.
When you think about it isn’t it amazing that a homeless Parsi Irani Zoroastrian begging on the streets is unheard of. I believe that as a community we do take care of our own. And as I said before its more productive to get your own community in order first before you can move on to help others.
Lockdown was an truly an eye opener for everyone as people lost their jobs, lavish lifestyles were compromised overnight and couples struggled to make ends meet. But hope was never lost. People in the community started using their talents and came up with innovative things to sell. Small businesses took a front seat. Cookies, brownies, gharab nu acchar, farsan, etc all started seeing the light of day as they shone from master chef to online marketing. We saw it all and even today this continues to grow in a good way. We get to see and experience firsthand all this talent during our Navroze sales events that take place at Dadar and Cama Baug.
I remember once asking a friend to accompany me to one of these sales and he responded by saying “I dont really need anything from there”. I told him that it would be great if he came and bought a few things, even if it were to gift away to someone else. It helps create an enthusiasm for the people working hard to sell their products and the encouragement goes a long way in helping them thrive. This thought process gave rise to an innovative Whatsapp group called “Dial A Parsi”. We never imagined it would get such a tremendous response and grow so fast where there are 4 WhatsApp groups already. And it has grown so popular that every Parsi helps and encourages another.
It is such a brilliant formula with a simple Funda. It is like a helpline of sorts for Parsi’s.
A place to encourage each other, find anything you are looking for or even just find any other Parsi or long lost friend.
There is No politics, no good morning, no news.
This group is was formed with the sole purpose of demand and supply of services, so that we can encourage those from within the community rather than seek services elsewhere. So come join “Dial a Parsi” WhatsApp group and have a wonderful year ahead. Navroze Mubarak to you all and may we as a community stay together, eat together and live a beautiful life together. Eat – Pray – Enjoy – Repeat
