MORE POWER TO COLONY ASSOCIATIONS
A person contesting to be a Trustee must be approachable. Approachable on personal level and also approachable for work of the Trust.
Many claim they will dedicate an hour or two a day on affairs of the Trust. However, the role of a Trustee is 24×7. Trustees are the custodians of the BPP which control over 4300 homes and also large land parcels in Mumbai including our sacred Doongerwadi.
Every community member must be facing issues from time to time. These issues are most of the time resolved internally or within the colony where the person resides. However, for all larger concerns, the BPP must be involved and the Trustees be held accountable.
Many colonies I have visited, the people complained about issues specific to their colony and baug. I feel the only way a Trustee will realise the plight of beneficiaries is by them visiting colonies unannounced from time to time and seeing for themselves what the beneficiaries are suffering from. Once a Trustee realises the issue –then most certainly, the Trustees will do all that they can to resolve the issue. For this there needs to be channels of dialogue between the Trustees and the colony associations who should be the voice of the residents of the colonies. This is the only way cooperative and conjunctive decisions can be taken by the BPP for each colony.
For instance:
Gamadia Colony faces an issue of cleanliness since it is on the main road and not gated in anyway.
Nirlon Colony faces an issue of parking Contractor Baug and Panthaky Baug faces an issue of security etc
I have spent a few weeks on the campaign trail, and I have learnt so much about each colony and what the different issues and needs for each colony. Certainly if elected, we will chalk out a plan within the first 60 days to meet with colony associations calling upon them to prepare a list of each colonies top 3 priorities and aim to fulfil them within the first year of appointment. This will ensure that whilst the BPP is working for the community it also renders the correct services to each colony, colony by colony.
These action plans can be fulfilled with the right team in place. A team of like-minded people who are independent yet think for a common goal of service the community unitedly!
