Indian business tycoon Ratan Tata is undoubtedly one of the most loved and admired personalities in our country. Apart from possessing remarkable business foresight and being a generous philanthropist, he is also a great humanitarian who is not corrupted by fame or success.
This 82-year-old industrialist has surely taught us important life lessons that can help us in becoming better human beings and that’s why there isn’t a single person in India who hasn’t heard his name or is not inspired by him. But on the other hand, many people across the country have more knowledge about Ratan Tata’s young assistant and millennial friend Shantanu Naidu rather than his family members.
Despite having a lot of resources, industrialists and philanthropists Ratan Tata and his family have lived a lavish lifestyle, that’s why many of us didn’t know more about Ratan Tata‘s family members. So, here is all about the other members of the Tata family.
1. Jimmy Naval Tata
While most people are well familiar with Ratan Tata’s name but many are even not aware of Jimmy Naval Tata who has lived in the shadow of his larger-than-life older brother, Ratan Naval Tata.
A shareholder in Tata Sons and several other Tata companies, the reclusive Jimmy is a trustee of Sir Ratan Tata Trust, a position he inherited after his father Naval died in 1989 in accordance with his will. Ratan Tata’s younger brother and a trustee of Sir Ratan Tata Trust board. Jimmy, a bachelor, lives in a two BHK apartment in Colaba, Mumbai. He is a reserved person which is quite evident from his invisibility from news reports revolving around the Tatas, especially the Cyrus Mistry case. According to the TOI report, a 2015 letter from Jimmy Naval Tata to Tata Sons highlighted 3,262 ordinary shares he possesses with the company.
2. Simone Tata
Simone Naval Tata is a Swiss-born Indian Businesswoman belonging to the Tata family. Simone Tata was born and brought up in Geneva, Switzerland and graduated from Geneva University. In 1953 she visited India as a tourist, never knowing that she’ll find her mate on a trip. Simone and Naval Tata got married in 1955 and she permanently shifted to India.
Simone Tata joined the Board of Lakme Ltd in 1961 and was appointed as the Managing Director in 1964. Simone took over as Chairman of the Board in 1982 and founded Trent. She served as its Non-Executive Chairman until October 2006. Simone is the mum of Noel Tata and step-mum to Ratan Tata. She is also grand-mum to Noel’s three children with Aloo Mistry (the sister of Cyrus Mistry), all of whom are said to work within the Tata fold.
3. Noel Naval Tata
Noel N Tata is the Chairman of Tata International Limited. Before joining Tata International, he worked with Trent Limited, serving as its Managing Director for more than 11 years. Having led Trent, Noel Tata was appointed the Vice-Chairman of Trent Limited in 2012 and later as Chairman in 2014. Noel Tata continues to serve as the Chairman of Trent, where he has overseen the growth of Trent across formats – from a one-store operation in 1998 to over 330 stores across formats in 2020.
Noel Tata graduated from Sussex University (UK) and has completed the International Executive Programme (IEP) from INSEAD. He is the son of Naval H Tata and Simone N Tata. Noel is Ratan Tata and Jimmy Tata’s half-brother from their father’s side and he is an Indian businessman with Irish citizenship.
4. Jimmy Minocher Tata
Jimmy Minocher Tata is a son of Minocher Tata. Jimmy Minocher Tata is on the board of HDB Financial Services Ltd. and Chief Credit Officer at HDFC Bank Ltd. He received a graduate degree from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies.
5. Neville Tata
Son of Noel Tata and Aloo Mistry, Neville Tata married Manasi Kirloskar, director of Kirloskar Technologies. They have a son named Jamset Tata.
Neville Tata works with Trent – one of the leading players in the branded retail industry in India retail chain, that was founded by his grandmother Simone Tata and built by his father Noel Tata.
6. Leah Tata
The eldest daughter of Noel Naval Tata, Leah Tata is working their way up in group companies just like other professionals. According to Economic Times, Leah is working with Indian Hotels Company, the operator of the Taj group of hotels.
7. Maya Tata
Noel Tata’s younger daughter Maya Tata is likely to move into Tata Digital, following the recent abrupt closure of Tata Capital’s oldest private equity fund where she helped the team manage portfolio companies. At Tata Opportunities Fund, Maya Tata handled investor relationship and portfolio management, according to Economic Times. She is understood to have met Tata Digital’s top brass since her father is keen that she stays on in the group.
There is not much information available online about Leah and Maya Tata siblings, because they keep away from the limelight and merged into the system of different Tata companies of the Tata family.
