Elderly attacked, gold chain robbed

65-year-old senior citizen from the Parsi community and living all by herself was attacked on the first floor stairs of her building, by a robber who hit her on her back with a knife and then snatched her gold chain and fled the spot. The incident took place in the Grant Road area of South Mumbai Saturday night.

According to the DB Marg police, the incident occurred around 9.30 pm on the first floor stairs of two storied Petit block E –1, passage of first floor, Avabai Petit block Grand road (east). The victim Shehnaz Peshi Rauji has a habit of watching movies on Saturdays.
As usual she was returning home when the robber came from behind and pulled her gold chain. Rauji resisted and the accused slashed her with the knife and managed to flee with the ornament worth half a lakh rupees.

Rauji has been admitted to Harkisandas Hospital and has suffered an injury on her back. She is out of danger.

The police believe the robber must have kept an eye on her weekend routine of watching movies. Her daughters live nearby and are taking care of her. Rauji used to work for an insurance firm and with the pension she gets manages her expenses. Only four families live in her building and it has no CCTV surveillance or security guards. About 25 suspects were rounded up but none of them is the culprit, who is aged between 20 and 30 years. The small blood-stained knife has been found.

The police has registered an FIR under section 394 of the IPC and have swung into action to nab him.

Previous case
On July 1, 72-year-old Chanda Raheja who lived on the fifth floor of the Shalimar Cooperative Housing Society in Santa Cruz. was assaulted by unidentified men at her residence. The men had ransacked her house but the exact value of goods could not be ascertained. Raheja who was found in an unconscious state and admitted to a hospital succumbed to her injuries four days later.
